Is there
really a streetcar named Desire?
There’s one on display for the
tourists to gawk at in the French Quarter. I forget where it is,
but I saw it once when I was taking friends around. Streetcars
never had names – people used to refer to them by the streets they ran on. “The Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams (what a
great title!) refers to the car that ran along Desire St. Today,
the best ride is the St. Charles streetcar that runs from the
Garden District to the French Quarter.
