The
Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority rail line (MARTA) travels
to/from the airport to downtown. This is a great choice for
getting to and from the airport. The Atlanta Airport
Shuttle also transports passengers to hotels all over the city in a minibus. All the major car rental agencies have desks at the
baggage claim level.
Driving in Atlanta can be infuriating and
confusing. You'll often find yourself sitting in traffic
jams, and it's easy to get disoriented - a good map is really a valuable
asset. MARTA is a good option if you are staying in town
and have a lot of time as sometimes the schedules may not be
dependable. If you're staying outside the Perimeter,
you'll definitely need a car.
Because Atlanta is such a
car-centric city, two hour metered street parking is usually plentiful. Many parking garages offer reasonable rates (usually
around $10 per day) for daylong parking. Parking is free at
most shopping malls.
MARTA operates a small but efficient rail
system and an extensive bus network in Atlanta and some of the
surround in communities. The rail system has only 2 major lines but manages to get close to many of the major
sites.
