What are some things that are unique to Aspen Colorado?

Aspen is home to great skiing and beautiful alpine scenery.  Aspen is a truly unique resort known
for hosting some of the wealthiest skiers in the world.

Four ski areas are operated by Aspen Skiing Company.  Aspen, overlooking the town, is an
athletes mountain, offering more than three thousand feet of steep vertical drop.  Aspen
Highlands, about one mile west of town, has outstanding extreme skiing and breathtaking views.  
Buttermilk Mountain, two miles west of Aspen, provides gentle slopes for beginners and
intermediate skiers.  Snowmass, twelve miles northwest of Aspen on highway 82 boasts the

What are some other activities in Aspen, particularly for those interested in hiking and biking?

The three wilderness areas surrounding Aspen offer bountiful hiking trails in summer and early
fall.  The Hunter Valley Trail leads through wild flower meadows and into the Hunter-Fryingpan
Wilderness Area.  
Plenty of heavily used mountain biking routes surround Aspen Mountain and Smuggler Mountain.
 Hunter Valley and Sunnyside Trails provide a challenging single-track loop north of town.  The
Montezuma Basin and Pearl Pass rides offer extreme cycling experiences.
